About the oceanarium

It so happened that in Ukraine the word "oceanarium" is primarily associated with numerous dolphinariums that used to be everywhere in many cities of the country. But what is an oceanarium really? First of all, it is a museum with living exhibits, inhabitants of the planet's seas and oceans. This is exactly what our Kyiv oceanarium "Sea Tale" is like, which opened its welcoming doors in December 2012

Oceanarium "Sea Tale" is a home for more than 3,000 aquatic inhabitants: fish, reptiles, amphibians, invertebrates, belonging to almost 200 species of animals. On an area of about 800 m², there are 50 aquariums, open pools and an underwater tunnel with a total volume of 200,000 liters of water

Immediately at the entrance, visitors are greeted by a storm of the seas - a legendary corsair, who takes guests to the first gallery of the exhibition - an upside-down wooden ship. In the portholes of the sunken ship, there is a cozy exhibition of a real 6-meter coral complex with its natural inhabitants: fish, starfish and sea urchins, sea sponges, etc.

From the ship, guests enter the world of the Amazon, as well as the pearl of the "Sea Tale" - an outdoor pool with sea rays and cat sharks

And then - the largest in Ukraine an underwater tunnel, located at a depth of 2 meters under water! Only 8 cm thick acrylic glass separates the audience from the fish. Being in the tunnel is completely safe and extremely exciting - all the underwater life is happening right before your eyes: majestic sea turtles and cheeky reef sharks are so close

The exit from the tunnel is designed in the style of Captain Nemo's submarine. Six unique biotopes-aquariums with various hydrobionts (aquatic animals) await you in the portholes of the boat. Schools of multi-colored, bright fishes bustle here and there, shrimps wave their antennae, moray eels hide in caves, and spiny gorse and kabobs seek adventure. Soft corals escort guests with wave-like movements of their strange bodies, and hard coral polyps work daily to strengthen and grow coral reefs

And here is the largest aquarium in front of you - a 17-ton home for the green sea turtle, the Bissa sea turtle and large plataxes, argus, groupers

At the exit from the central hall, the "Nemo-zone" is compactly placed - a dozen aquariums with various types of ocillaris (clown fish, favorites of not only children, but also adults), spiny fish, surgeon fish, etc

But among our residents there will be not only funny and bright clown fish. The most poisonous fish in the world - pufferfish, wingfish are also waiting for guests in their water houses in order to amaze your imagination

Only we make your childhood dreams come true!

n "Sea Tale", every visitor can not only immerse himself in the atmosphere of the magical environment of the underwater world, but also witness the demonstrative feeding of sharks and sea turtles, koi carp and a caiman crocodile

The main source of water supply to the oceanarium is the municipal water supply network of the city of Kyiv. Water undergoes successive purification through sand and carbon filters, as well as through a reverse osmosis system. The oceanarium does not use natural sea water due to the territorial distance from salt water bodies, especially since water is not just salty (sea), but with certain characteristics. Salt water is prepared from fresh water directly in the aquarium. All aquarium life support systems are individual for each aquarium and work as closed filtration systems. Depending on the required water temperature, aquariums have a heating or cooling system

Highly qualified biologists, chemists and aquarists work in the aquarium, who monitor the health of animals and plants, the Ph level of water in aquariums, the level of phosphates, nitrites and nitrates (and their correction), the living conditions of animals and compliance with the requirements for proper maintenance, as well as to the safe and as close as possible to the natural living conditions of every inhabitant of the oceanarium
